Grades K-1:
Grade 2:
- The second lesson of this unit was about sharing. A lot of tattling revolves around sharing conflicts, and this lesson provides students with 4 different ways to share. To relay the importance of sharing, the students were given a piece of paper and one crayon. They were asked to draw a rainbow using only the crayon given to them. When they were finished, they turned their paper over and were instructed to draw another rainbow, however, they could share their crayons with other classmates. They were able to see how you cannot draw a rainbow using only one crayon, because rainbows have a lot of colors (A student example can be seen above)! They liked their rainbows better when they could share crayons and use all of the colors. Next, we went over the 4 ways to share (using the chart above) and practiced using scenarios. Students pretended that they were having a sharing problem and made a sharing choice together. This tool was left in the classroom for students to resolve sharing problems on their own.
Grade 2:
- The students in 2nd grade also received a similar sharing lesson, completing the same rainbow activity. However, instead of the sharing chart, they used Kelso's choice wheel to give them more options (which was made into a spinner to make it more fun). When students encounter a sharing problem, they can spin Kelso's wheel and try the first resolution that it lands on. If that option does not work, they can spin again. This tool was also left in the classroom as a fun alternative to tattling (i.e., they are learning to resolve conflicts on their own).
