This group was adapted from the B.Y.O.U magazine, https://www.byoumagazine.com, which aims to promote a healthy self-concept in adolescent girls through positive role models, empowering stories, quizzes, games, and tips.
B.Y.O.U Biography Book: The activity above is a biography page that will be used for my B.Y.O.U. group. Each group member will create a page which will be combined into a group book. It is a great way to spark ideas about self-concept, interests, and strengths, and it also allows them to get to know each other.
A Good Friend Chart: I have used this chart in my self-esteem group to talk about peer-pressure. Students can brainstorm various qualities of a good friend, as well as qualities of a bad friend.
A Letter to Myself: This letter is an excellent way to end the self-esteem group (or, any group). Specifically, it allows students to process what they've learned in group by writing a letter to themselves to open in the future. In terms of self-esteem, students are encouraged to write a letter about positive self-concept, body image, positive affirmations, strengths, and avoiding peer-pressure that they may face in the future. Later on (perhaps when they're struggling with their self-concept), they can open the letter and be reminded of their great qualities!
Positivity Stones: These stones are a great art activity for students to make in group. After learning about positive affirmations, students can write them down on a decorative background and create their own emotion stones.
Pre and Post Evaluation: This evaluation was given to students at the onset of group as well as at the end in order to evaluate progress of knowledge and overall self-concept.
